Recently, a blind item that got published by The Opinionated Indian has, somehow, sparked new speculation about the sequel of a pandemic-era film. It’s said to be on track to bring together two A-list superstars, yeah, the whole thing. While the leading man’s actress wife will return, her presence, reportedly, has been toned down a lot, like an extended cameo sort of role.
Blind Item
The 2nd installment of a franchise is being made. Two A-list superstars will star in the sequel to the movie which released during the pandemic. The A-list male lead’s actress wife will be seen in a cameo in the sequel. She was the female lead of the 1st part. As per a source, the original script for the 1st part had a twist in the end – the heroine turns out to be the villain. But the film producer, who was also the mentor of the heroine changed the script to keep the character positive. The movie made losses for the studio upon release but was marketed as a hit. A new producer has been brought on board, but he has made it clear that the hero’s real life wife won’t have a major role in the sequel. Her part as been reduced to an extended cameo.
The interesting part is that the actress’ reduced screen time is reportedly not sitting well with everyone close to the project. Theres chatter that the male star was pretty keen to have his wife keep some meaningful presence in the franchise, mainly because their on-screen chemistry was one of the major talking points around the first film. But the new creative team seems determined to keep the sequel locked on its bigger mythology, rather than reshaping the screenplay around any one particular star. Interestingly , recent reports also hint that the sequel is being planned on a much larger scale, and another major female character is expected to play a key role in the story.
There is also some industry gossip going around that the politics around the franchise have become far more complicated than what looks obvious from the outside. The first film came with enormous expectations, and its production was famously ambitious, so the makers are reportedly trying to dodge repeating the mistakes that happened when they tried to accommodate too many priorities at once. Now the sequel is being treated like a more tightly controlled undertaking, with the plot and mythology leading the way over any star demands. Of course, these are just industry whispers and should be taken with a pinch of salt, but limiting the actress’ contribution definitely makes the casting dynamics around the sequel worth watching.
