Haq is a social drama that puts forth in its cast Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi in a story that centers around marriage and women’s rights, law, and justice. From the direction of Suparn S Varma, the film is inspired by the issue of Shah Bano and puts forth a fictional take on the issues through the character of a woman who sets out to stand up for what is right. Haq (2025) Cast
The film has an excellent ensemble cast which includes Yami Gautam as Shazia Bano and Emraan Hashmi as Abbas Khan. Yami’s character is that of a woman who, out of personal struggle, grows into a main player in the quest for justice. Emraan’s character is that of Abbas, her husband, which is the base of the story’s conflict.
The support staff which includes Vartika Singh as Saira, Sheeba Chaddha as lawyer Bela Jain, Danish Husain as Maulvi Basheer, and Aseem Hattangady as Faraz Sayeed. Also featured are Jaimini Pathak, Piloo Vidyarthi and several other key actors.
Haq Movie Story
In the social and legal climate of 1970s and 1980s India, which is the setting for Haq, we are introduced to Shazia Bano, a married woman who, at home, is transformed when her husband Abbas brings in another wife. As her family situation deteriorates, Shazia turns to get financial support for herself and her children.
When Shazia takes to the courts upon Abbas’ failure to pay as promised, the issue blows up into a full-scale legal and social firestorm which in turn sees her personal issue become a national stage for women’s rights, religion and constitutional justice.
The film is based on the real-life Shah Bano case, which was a pivotal issue in India’s legal past.
Haq Songs and Music
Haq’s music has been done by Vishal Mishra; in addition, Sandeep Chowta has worked out the background score. Lyrics for the album have been penned by Kaushal Kishore. Also included in the soundtrack are “Qubool”, “Kya Paaya” and “Jhoom Banware,” which weave an element of emotion into the film’s dramatic structure.
Haq Release and OTT
On November 7, 2025, Haq hit the cinema and, in turn, went live on Netflix on January 2, 2026, which brought the film to a larger audience.
In a courtroom setting that also serves as a stage for great performance and a platform for social issue discussion, that is what Haq brings to the table. It tells the story of a woman’s quest for justice, which at the same time puts a spotlight on issues of rights, law, and equality.
