Each year, thousands of young Indians have the dream of becoming civil servants, which only a few achieve. IPS officer Sweety Sehrawat is an example of that, which is very inspiring her journey is a story of determination, resilience, and undying public service. What makes her story even more so is that she left a secure corporate job to fulfill my dad’s dream of seeing me serve the nation. As a person who is into reading up on the success stories of UPSC toppers and successful officers, I find her journey to be living proof that dedication and perseverance really do transform your life.
Early Life and Education
Sweety Sehrawat was born at the turn of the year 1992 saw the birth in Delhi; this year she will be 34 in 2026. She did very well from the beginning in academics, which was also marked by discipline in what she put into studies; we can term it as an academic start that included no extra effort. Also, at the very young age that we are speaking of, at the age of 20, to have graduated out of Delhi Technological University (DTU), a prestigious element of India’s technical and engineering community, with a degree in BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, did very fine work for her, and us as a community.
After graduation, that’s when she started in the field as a design engineer in the corporate sector. But in 2013, a turning point came with the death of her father. Out of his wish to see her in uniform, which was his life’s dream, she got motivated to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Exam.
Family: A source of strength
Sweety Sehrawat comes from a family that has for generations been dedicated to public service. In her father, whom we remember as a former Head Constable in the Delhi Police, and also her mother, a woman named Kamlesh, who was a rock for the family through all these years. Also in the mix is her brother, Harish Sehrawat, who is a Sub-Inspector in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and also upholds the family’s legacy of dedication to the nation.
She is married to Dhruv Aarav, who also reports that despite the tough aspect of police work, she is known for running a very balanced home and professional life.
The UPSC Journey
Preparing for the UPSC exam was a trade-off for a stable corporate job, a choice which required great courage. Sweety approached her prep with discipline, into a routine of regular study and mock tests, which in turn she used for improvement through self-analysis.
In 2019, her dedication paid off when she got All India Rank 187 in the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Also that year, she was appointed to the Bihar cadre of the Indian Police Service, which fulfilled not only what was a personal dream for her, but also the lifetime ambition of her father.
Career as an IPS Officer
Sweety Sehrawat began her IPS term as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. She saw this through effective law enforcement, calm decision-making, and a strong focus on community policing.
As her career grew, her which she which she spent in public service she did see success in her roles and dedication to public welfare. She went on to be named the Chief of Police in Patna Central, which was the state of Bihar’s at that time most important police post, which she handled with professional skill and confidence.
Challenges and Leadership
Like many other officers in stressful posts, Sweety Sehrawat has put up with hard situations and public scrutiny. Instead of getting sidetracked by issues, she has stayed focused on the job. She proved through the BPSC protests and other sensitive law and order issues that she is able to lead under pressure yet at the same time maintain composure and accountability.
