Vaas bowled 8 overs, including 3 maidens, and took 8 wickets for just 19 runs, with an economy rate of 2.37. Vaas remains the only bowler to take 8 wickets in a single ODI. His ODI debut was on February 15, 1994, against India, and he went on to play 322 ODIs, taking 400 wickets with a best bowling figure of 8/19 and an economy rate of 4.19.


2. Shahid Afridi - 7/12


Former Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi is known for his exceptional bowling and batting skills in ODIs. Afridi holds the record for the second-most wickets in a single ODI match, achieved against West Indies at Providence on July 14, 2013. In that match, Afridi bowled 9 overs, including 3 maidens, and took 7 wickets for 12 runs, with an economy rate of 1.33. Afridi debuted in ODIs against Kenya on October 2, 1996, and went on to play 398 matches, taking 395 wickets and scoring 8,064 runs.

5. Andy Bichel - 7/20


Australian bowler Andy Bichel made his mark by taking 7 wickets for 20 runs in a match against England at Gqeberha on March 2, 2003. Bichel delivered 10 overs with an economy rate of 2.00. He was the first Australian to achieve this record in an ODI, which was later matched and surpassed in terms of runs conceded by Glenn McGrath four months later.
