RRR

Last year, South India has produced several superhits, with seven of the top ten top ten biggest grossing films of all time released in the last twelve months, beginning with Pushpa in December last year. Kantara, the most recent entrant to the list to the list, has grossed Rs. 396 crores so far, ranking it ninth on the list. Kantara's global income is divided as follows: Rs. 359 crores in India and Rs. 37 crores overseas. The film is approaching the end of its theatrical run and is expected to gross more than Rs. 400 crores.

RRR is another movie that has gained popularity since its release in "the land of the rising sun" last month. As of last Sunday, the movie has grossed 336,709,530 ($2.34 million) in Japan, adding Rs. 20 crores approx to its global box office tally, which currently stands at Rs. 1132 crores, around Rs. 50 crores less than KGF 2. Japan is a market where films can have extremely long legs, so it's difficult to put a finger on the final figure, but expect another $2-3 million from there.

That alone will not be sufficient to take it over KGF 2, but there is also a strong probability that RRR will be nominated for Oscars and other big awards in the West, which would give the film a run in some of the Western markets, potentially seal the deal.

The following are the top 10 highest-grossing South Indian films in the world:

1.    Baahubali: The Conclusion - Rs. 1753 crores
2.    KGF 2 - Rs. 1188 crores
