In India, digital media and content creation are at an all-time high. One notable individual who is renowned for her short-format storytelling and has achieved this success through her association with Team Black Films, as well as her ability to portray relatable characters and deliver dynamic performances, is actress Riya Mavi.

Born into a traditional Gujjar family on 15 November 1997, in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Riya’s father served in the Border Security Force (BSF), moving the family frequently across the country, including places like Kashmir and Hisar, prior to settling down in Delhi. This frequent relocation, while she was growing up, exposed Riya early on to different regions of India and different cultures, which have had a large influence on her performances as an actress.
Riya’s family was pushing her into a job in medicine because ‘that’s the way its done’. However, she went her own way by choosing a career that interests her. After completing a Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication at NRAI School (Delhi), she went on to complete a degree at Delhi University.
Her experience at these schools helped Riya develop skills for becoming an excellent communicator and storyteller and provided her with a base for working within the digital industry.
Team Black Films (Sanju’s YouTube collective), founded in 2019 and consisting of Riya and her founding members, provided this opportunity as a means for her talents to be displayed in an environment recognised as one that produces inspiring video content with an emotional storyline and social messaging.
On this platform, Riya has become a big part of the stories and has strong representations of female leads that a lot of people can relate to through her acting.
Some of the shows Riya is most known for are “Ladki Ka Pyar,” “Fake Pregnancy,” “Best Partner,” and “Man’s Sacrifice.” With each performance, Riya was able to build a rapport with her audience and create a following for herself on multiple platforms by showcasing raw emotion and connecting to real-life experiences through her performances.
Before joining Team Black Films, Riya had a working relationship with Amit Bhadana; however, due to disagreement over payment & recognition, she ended her relationship with him. While ending this relationship was difficult for Riya at the time, it has since proven to be one of the best decisions she has made for her career and allowed her to reposition herself with full creative control.
Riya is not just an actress; she has created an entrepreneurial empire as well with “Sugar Hugs Studio,” a beauty and make-up salon located in Greater Noida. Riya is a certified makeup artist who has developed a solid brand online and offline through her work as an account manager at a beauty supply company and her large following on Instagram with over 500K followers under the handle @sugar_hugs15, where she is now considered an influencer for potential collaborations.
Today, Riya Mavi is proof that new generations of creators can combine creativity with an understanding of how to do business. Her story is one of perseverance, hard work, dedication, and faith in herself. She can become more of an inspirational figure and provide hope to aspiring young people across India.
