Aishwarya Rai, the enduring beauty queen of Bollywood, returns to the big screen in Mani Ratnam’s period drama Ponniyin Selvan I, which also stars Chiyaan Vikram and Trisha, two big names from the South. The Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and the Taal actress were blessed with a child, Aaradhya Bachchan, who was hidden from the spotlight for most of her childhood. Aishwarya Rai allegedly had a low-key romance with Bollywood’s resident bad boy Salman Khan in the 1990s that lasted for almost two years.

The couple’s relationship is supposed to have started on the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam set. But following some moves on Salman’s side, their relationship came to an abrupt end that even made national headlines. Aishwarya explained their broken relationship to TOI, saying, “Salman and I split up in March, but he still can’t accept it. He called me and talked trash after we split up. He also believed I had relationships with my co-stars. I have connections with everyone, including Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Salman occasionally touched me physically, thankfully without leaving any marks.

In a different interview, Rai revealed more about Salman’s violent tendencies, according to Pinkvilla: She said “I stood by him suffering his drunken misbehaviour in its worst phases and in turn, I was at the receiving end of his violence, adultery, and indignity. That is why, like every other woman with self-respect, I ended our relationship”.
In a video interview from 2018, Aishwarya casually mentioned Salman despite the fact that their relationship had soured. After playing his romantic interest in the legendary Devdas, actress Rai discussed her experience being cast as Shah Rukh Khan’s sister in the cult classic Josh. She also revealed that Chandrachur Singh was not the only actor who had been considered for the role of Rahul, which was ultimately played by Chandrachur Singh.
When asked why she wasn’t nervous about playing Shah Rukh’s sister in Josh, she responded, “Not at all. Actually, I had committed to working with Mansoor. Aamir and Salman were initially scheduled to be in the cast when we first began. And then, she said, “I don’t know who all. Shah Rukh ultimately took its place. In Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salman and Aishwarya appeared to be very close to sharing screen time. All things considered, we’re thrilled to watch Aishwarya Rai make her film comeback in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan I.
