It is one of the oldest colleges in Kolkata founded by a catholic minority religious group in 1860. It is affiliated with Calcutta University. Students interested in pursuing an economics degree can opt for B.Sc in economics through college. Doctoral degrees in Economics are not available.

The Hindu College is a public state institution of higher learning in Kolkata, formerly known as the presidency university. It is affiliated with Calcutta University. The university offers Applied Econometric and a Bachelor of Science in Economics. The admissions are based on entrance exams in respective fields.
