People have seen many love affairs in the film industry but among them, Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan’s notorious tale of SilSila has always been in the headlines. For this story, Rekha always came up with a different story each time.
In an interview with stardust in 1978, Rekha made an explosive statement about the controversy around the alleged affair between the two. She mentioned that she recited a few lines in an award show which were meant for Jaya, but everyone meant that it was him.
Another time, Rekha quoted ‘ Once I was looking at the whole [Bachchan] family through the projection room when they came to see the trial show of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Jaya was sitting in the front row and he and his parents were in the row behind her. They couldn’t see her as clearly as I could. And during our love scenes, I could see tears pouring down her face.’
Another shocking detail she opened up was that once Jaya invited her to the dinner in the Bachchan mansion and made sure to tell her at the end “I will never leave Amit whatever happens.”
In an interview in November 1984 with Filmfare, she openly talked about the denial of their affair by BigB saying “Why do you think he has done this? He did protect his image, his family, and his children. It’s alluring, but it doesn’t work for me. I don’t care what people think about me.
Apart from these incidents, Rekha makes sure to leave hints on this topic in many shows and interviews.
