The Great Indian Murder Plot & Ending Explained
Vicky Rai (Jatin Goswami) is an esteemed businessman and the son of Jagganath Rai, a politician (Ashutosh Rana). When he seeks to appease a Nigerian government official for just some favours, he pays tribute to a budding starlet. He prepares two minors for the official when she refuses to degrade herself to that level.
He is later compelled to conceal their deaths, but when the automobile transporting their remains is captured, he is jailed. After three years, he is cleared and freed by bribing the investigating officials. Vicky plans to celebrate his freedom by throwing a party at his Delhi farmhouse.
This party has a lot of guests, many of whom are not huge admirers of Vicky. Vicky is shot in the chest and killed during a fireworks display. On the way out, all of the visitors are checked, and two people are caught with firearms on their person and held by the police.
Jagganath Rai intends to use this tragedy to obtain political influence in his home state of Chattisgarh, with the support of Delhi CM and CBI main investigator Suraj Yadav (Pratik Gandhi). Suraj is aided by the Delhi police officer Sudha Bharadwaj (Richa Chadha). Vicky bribed her as one of the officials who helped him be acquitted.
Suraj is tasked with making the investigation look to lead to the present Chief Minister of Chattisgarh as the major offender. Munna (Shashank Arora), a petty burglar from the slums, and Eketi (Mani PR), a tribal guy from Andaman who hardly speaks Hindi or English, were the first two suspects found with firearms at the party.
Munna was recently seen flaunting a large sum of money, which the police believe was his payoff for carrying away Vicky. He claims he took the money from a person on the street. When his friend is found killed at their customary hangout, he tells everyone about it.
Munna had noticed someone walking anxiously with a large black bag, so he gambled and snatched it. He was followed by other men, but he escaped. As he discovered the money in the bag, he began spending it slowly until the men hunting him caught up with him.
They killed his companion and seized the bag. Munna managed to flee and then purchased a rifle for protection.
Eketi tries to explain that he was merely hunting for his deity, an idol that had been stolen from his village and transferred to Delhi. He was caught in Chennai on an unrelated charge, and police suspect he is a Nigerian called Michael Busari. He protests his innocence and tells them that he was duped by the real Michael.
He pursued various leads, including Ashok Rajput (Sharib Hashmi), a welfare employee who volunteered to help him retrieve the idol. Ashok had instructed him where to find the idol on Vicky Rai's land.
Sudha and her subordinate officer Manjot (Guneet Singh) are probing Munna's claim, which points to an abduction scheme orchestrated by Billu Biryani (Hemanth Mahaur). When they arrested Billu, his narrative affirms Munna's innocence and that he was simply in the wrong location at the wrong time. They come across a snapshot of former IAS official Mohan Kumar (Raghuvir Yadav) carrying a pistol while going through images from the night.
They go to his residence to question him and discover that he has a split personality, with his persona being Mahatma Gandhi. While in that condition, he begins to live the celibate lifestyle that the real Gandhiji followed, removing all alcohol from his home, generously giving away his fortune, and breaking relations with his lover.
Mohan was a director in Vicky's firm, and the two of them regularly clashed owing to their egos. That's why Mohan felt compelled to harm Vicky. He had gone to the party as Mohan, but after an encounter with Vicky, he was back to being Mohan and wanted to retrieve his gun from the car.
He fired the gun, but Suraj believes it could not have hit Vicky because of where Mohan was standing. He is capable of proving his idea when he discovers a bullet among the party garbage.
A video of Munna and Ritu Rai (Rucha Inamdar) having an intimate moment is discovered on Billu's phone. When questioned, he admits that the two of them were a relationship. He was going to help her in escaping her terrible environment, where Vicky abused her, by obtaining tickets to London.
Ritu confirms this narrative, proving Munna's innocence once again. Suraj comes upon some radical socialist material in Eketi's room. Utilizing this information and the fact that the Chattisgarh Chief Minister was a lefty in college, Suraj concocts a tale in which the CM orchestrates Vicky's murder with the aid of Naxals, who send Eketi to kill Jagganath instead.
Sudha and Manjot are puzzled as to why Ashok was not summoned for interrogation to back up Eketi's claims, so Sudha sent Manjot to Jaisalmer to corroborate his account.
Ending explained in detail (Episode 9: Dhokha):
A family scorned
Manjot goes to the address Sudha told him to find Ashok Rajput. His brother was a forestry official who was involved in a lawsuit against Vicky Rai several years ago when he slaughtered a deer.
Vicky had bribed the other authorities, but when Ashok's brother refused to be bought, he was assassinated before testifying against Vicky in court.
Ashok swore a pledge to exact vengeance on Vicky for his misdeeds so that his brother's spirit might rest in peace.
Political games aplenty
Suraj meets with Jagganath Rai and the Delhi Chief Minister to update them on the premise behind their inquiry and how it points to the Chattisgarh Chief Minister.
Jagganath and the others are given information that causes them to suspect his phone is being tapped and that an independent journalist aims to expose the scheme.
Ashok is being shown planting the idol at Vicky Rai's house, then shooting at him during the party, and finally putting the pistol in Eketi's bag so he may take the blame. Manjot informs Sudha that the Jaisalmer lead is a dead end, despite the fact that it isn't. He then calls Suraj to tell that he, too, is crooked and is attempting to defraud him.
A sad and unnecessary demise
Eketi breaks his cell and searches the police station for the idol. When another officer discovers him and puts him in the evidence room, he finds it damaged. The true idol is seen to be at Ashok's house, where Ashok fears it will be a curse, as it has been around since it was taken.
Suraj is summoned back to the station to deal with Eketi. He enters the evidence room, where Eketi approaches him with the shattered idol and asks where he might get the genuine one. Suraj tells him to go, but when Eketi fails to find another way out, he is shot.
Suraj phones Sudha to tell her that Eketi attempted to flee but was slain in the process. The scene of Vicky's murder is then replayed, with the appearance of a third shooter whose identity remains unknown. The season has come to a close.
