Mithya, a 6-episode series with each installment lasting around 35 minutes, is the tale of two women, Juhi Adhikari (played by Huma Qureshi) and Rhea Rajguru (played by Avantika Dassani), who are on opposite sides of the fence, with the latter having an unhealthy fascination with the former. Despite ticking a lot of boxes of what makes a show go wrong, Mithya is still quite an entertaining watch. We won’t say we loved anything about the show, but we don’t regret watching it as it was engaging, though not always in a positive way.
What Is ‘Mithya’ About?
The narrative follows Juhi Adhikari, an instructor of Hindi literature, after she fails Rhea Rajguru, one of her students, due to suspected plagiarism. Juhi and her husband Neil Adhikari (played by Parambrata Chatterjee) appear to be happily married and are attempting to have a baby. Juhi’s attitude towards her friend Vishal hints at difficulties in her relationship, which further become apparent when Rhea refuses to accept the “F” grade and begins to harass Juhi. Rhea even goes to Juhi’s house in the absence of her, ostensibly to present her with proof that her paper was not plagiarized, and flirts with Neil. This is when Juhi’s cat vanishes, leading her and the viewer to believe that Rhea is responsible.
Juhi’s suspicions regarding Rhea become increasingly credible yet her family and friends remain skeptical. This culminates when she sees Rhea wearing a duplicate of the stolen ring, leading to embarrassment and raising doubts on her claims of Rhea being a trouble-maker. This further leads to a fight with her husband who claims she has achieved her status only through her father’s influence. Neil also becomes concerned as the teaching grant he has applied for is in the hands of Rhea’s father and could be hindered by Juhi’s actions.
As Rhea and Neil’s relationship strengthened, they eventually sent each other pictures of a sexual nature, which Rhea then used as a bargaining chip to escape the consequences of plagiarism. After that, the truth behind Rhea’s actions and her relationship with Juhi were revealed.

‘Mithya’ Ending Explained
The premiere begins with Neil Adhikari’s murder, and the later episodes are structured around flashbacks, ending in the present moment with the investigation of the case. As the narrative of “Mithya” continues, we get the feeling that Rhea is the criminal, and it is in the last episode that we get confirmation. Juhi is arrested, accused of murdering her husband, but one of the officers is unconvinced and further examines the situation.
Juhi’s father then contacts Rhea and requests a meeting. In the meeting, he recalls how Juhi was the only one to stand up for Rhea and question her father’s wrongdoings. He begs her to help Juhi in any way she can. At this point Rhea reveals that she has already helped Juhi by murdering Neil. She claims that he was going to strangle her and so she killed him in self-defense. Juhi’s dad then admits that he was recording the conversation and they now have proof to exonerate Juhi.
The movie jumps ahead two years. Juhi is now a published author, a mother, and is living with her parents. She decides to see Rhea one last time to learn the truth. When they talk, Rhea confesses that she didn’t kill Neil to defend herself, but out of anger. Neil had been given the collar of Rhea’s deceased pet cat, implying that she was the one who murdered him.
Neil calls Rhea a monster, saying her mom killed herself because she couldn’t stand having given birth to such a beast. This is when Rhea loses her temper and stabs Neil in rage. Ronnie, her friend and the one who wrote her assignments, helped cover up her crime.
Upon hearing this, Juhi informs Rhea that she desires to never encounter her again. She has had enough of her tendency to lie. She hopes that Rhea discovers something purposeful to devote her life to, but stays away from her life permanently.
Rhea instructs Ronnie to carry out the deed of killing her adoptive father, who neglected her throughout her life. On the other hand, Juhi and her mother reconcile with her father and reunite the family. In the closing minutes, Rhea sends Juhi a letter in which she admits Juhi is better than her and she will never come between them again but she also questions if Juhi can trust her promise.
This causes Juhi to go to check on her son and she finds petals of a certain flower near him, revealing that Rhea is back. This ending for “Mithya” left the audience with mixed emotions but it was still the best way to end the movie.
