Shahrukh Khan’s recent box-office triumph may have veered off course, but his decades of dedication to the industry is as powerful as it was a decade ago. SRK is timeless, with a great blend of class and old-school charm. Here are 16 reasons why he is still known as the unapologetic Badshah of Hindi cinema. Here are 16 of his best films, in no particular order.
Following Anjaam, SRK starred as a romantic hero in a sequence of films, including DDLJ, DTPH, and KKHH, all of which were box office smashes, earning him the title “The King of Romance.”
Dil se… (1998)
The audience waited with bated breath for Maniratnam to make a Hindi picture. He collaborated on Dil Se… alongside SRK, who was fresh off the international triumph of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
SRK captured everyone’s hearts with his stunning portrayal as Amar, a journalist who falls in love with a mysterious woman in the film. And what Bollywood fan can forget SRK and Malaika Arora Khan dancing off on the train roof in Chaiyya Chaiyya.
Baazigar (1993)
In the 1990s, few Bollywood stars had the courage to jeopardise their careers by portraying a cold-blooded killer. In Baazigar, SRK did just that and swept everyone off their feet.
To extract vengeance on his father’s killer, he uses his charm to make one of his daughters fall in love with him, then murders her. If you haven’t seen SRK’s performance yet, you are grossly underestimating his abilities. One of the best Bollywood thriller films is Baazigar.
Darr (1993)
Once again, Shahrukh Khan did what no other big Bollywood actor could have done: he played a psychopath in a negative role. He portrays Rahul, who is head over heels in love with Kiran, who does not reciprocate his feelings. When she marries someone else, he goes insane.
Darr, directed by Yash Chopra, was and continues to be regarded as one of SRK’s greatest performances. Just a reminder, this film contains the famous shot of SRK carving a Kiran on his chest with a knife.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
This is, without a doubt, the most typical Indian family entertainer for which Bollywood is most known. Aditya Chopra, Yash Chopra’s older son, directed the film, which shattered all box office records at the time.
In the film, SRK plays Raj Malhotra, a charming young Londoner who falls in love with a desi kudi and returns to India to win his love. It was a big box office and critical triumph. Bollywood at its finest!
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
SRK was established as the top star in the Hindi film industry in the mid to late 1990s, and he still holds that position now. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, like DDLJ, shattered several records and became a cult favourite. In the film, which was a teenage love triangle for the ages, Shahrukh was at his most charming.
Veer- Zaara (2004)
Veer-Zaara, Yash Chopra’s final directorial effort, was a love storey that transcended the borders between arch-enemies India and Pakistan. SRK portrays Veer, an Indian army pilot who is imprisoned for life in a Pakistani prison on charges of spying. Zaara, his Pakistani sweetheart, believes he is dead and devotes her life to his ancestral hamlet in Punjab. SRK performed everything he is known for in the film, including romance, singing, dancing, and being amazing at what he does.
Chak De India! (2007)
Many people questioned SRK’s acting abilities due to his repeated appearances in identical roles. SRK, on the other hand, proved all his critics wrong with Chak De.
He portrayed Kabir Singh, the coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, who guides his squad to a world cup triumph. Chak De India, arguably one of the best Hindi mainstream films of the decade, was and continues to be a joy to see.
Paheli (2005)
Paheli, directed by veteran actor Amol Palekar, was one of those films that appeared to be a parallel film from afar yet couldn’t have been treated any more commercially.
The film depicted a ghost who falls in love with a lady and takes on the appearance of her husband in order to seduce her. This is definitely one of SRK’s most underappreciated films. When SRK explores, the film demonstrates that he is the only one who can fill everything with absolute grace and charm.
Swades (2004)
Swades starred Shahrukh Khan as Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who returns to India to bring his elderly grandmother back to the United States.
But something stirs his soul when he sees the real India and realises that his existence is meaningless unless he helps the people, his people. If you’re still not convinced that this is one of SRK’s best performances, believe us when we say that IT IS ONE OF THE BEST SRK PERFORMANCES EVER.
My Name is Khan (2010)
When Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar collaborate, it’s almost always a love story or a family drama. However, this film dismantled all of their preconceived notions about them as a group.
SRK gave a memorable performance as an autistic man named Rizvan Khan, who sets out to meet the President of the United States of America to tell him that ‘his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist.’ While Karan Johar directed probably his best film, SRK gave a memorable performance as an autistic man named Rizvan Khan, who sets out to meet the President of the United States of America to tell him that ‘his name is Khan and he is not
