The nadis or conduits known as ‘ida’ and ‘pingala’ (nadis or channels cannot be anatomically indicated.) Regular practise of Anulom Vilom pranayama helps to balance the energy flowing through the Ida and Pingala nadis by managing the Prana. This, in turn, stimulates the Sushumna Nadi, the centre channel. This aids in the removal of free radicals and toxins from the Ida and Pingala nadis, as well as the restoration of brain equilibrium between the two hemispheres. ANULOM VILOM PRANAYAMA METHOD-
- Sukhasana, Padmasana, and other meditation postures can be used.
- The spine should be in a straight position.
- Block the right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale for 2 seconds through the left nostril. Now close both of your nostrils and hold your breath for four seconds. (People with heart disease, high blood pressure, and pregnant women should not hold their breath while doing this pranayama; instead, they should inhale and exhale slowly.)
- Keep your left nose closed and your right nostril open. Exhale for 2 seconds through the right nostril. Inhale for 2 seconds through your right nostril. For 4 seconds, close both nostrils and hold your air. Keep your right nose closed and your left nostril open. Exhale via your left nostril for 2 seconds. Both nostrils should be closed.
- Hold your breath for 2 seconds in a suspended state. This brings us to the end of a single round.
- Rep the cycle, this time inhaling through your right nostril. Repeat for a total of 10 times. With consistent practise, try to raise your inhalation and exhalation counts. Maintain a ratio of equal counts for inhalation, expiration, and breath suspension while holding the breath for twice as long.
