She was born on November 4, 1971, in Hyderabad, India. The approximate age of Tabu is 51 as of now.  Artist has received six Filmfare Grants, including a record-breaking four Pundits Grants for Best Entertainer. He has also won the Public Film Grant for Best Entertainer twice.

She was born to Jamal Hashmi (her father) and Rizwana (her mum) into a Muslim household in Hyderabad. After some time, her family split up. Her mother was a teacher, and her maternal grandparents were retired teachers who operated a school. Her grandmother taught English literature, while her grandpa Mohammed Ahsan taught mathematics. She completed her schooling from St. Ann’s Secondary School, Secunderabad, and then moved on from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai later. Tabu's older sister Farah was also a renowned Bollywood actress in the early 1990's. She also happens to be the niece of Tanvi, Baba, and Shabana Azmi.

In Dev Anand's Hum Naujawan (1985), Tabu received her first credit for a role, and in the Telugu movie Coolie No. 1 (1991), she performed her first main role.
For Maachis and Chandni Bar, Tabu won the National Film Award for Best Actress. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Haider and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for Vijaypath. Her acting credits include Virasat, Hu Tu Tu, Astitva, Cheeni Kum, and Bhool Bhulaiyya 2. Her services to the arts earned her the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, by the Indian government in the year 2011.
