Top 11 Basic Carrom Board Rules For Beginners

Carrom

Here are the top 11 basic carrom board rules for beginners.

Arranging the Pieces:

Position the red queen at the center, surrounded by black and white carrom men in alternating circles. The whites form a "Y" pattern, aiming for the corner pockets, and the online game sets up the carrom men automatically.

Player Positions:

Players sit on one side of the board, striking only from that side. The first player, determined by a coin toss, takes the initial turn or 'breaks' by shooting the striker to breach the central circle.

Breaking:

The first shot, always played by the white pieces, initiates the game. If a player pockets a piece on the initial shot, they continue taking turns until unable to do so, adhering to the rule of returning the striker to the rectangle before the next shot.

Turns:

Players take turns striking the striker. If a piece is pocketed, the player continues their turn. In doubles, turns follow a counter-clockwise sequence from right to left.

Covering the Queen:

A player can pocket and cover the Queen if they've already pocketed a piece of their color. If successful, their turn continues, but failure returns the Queen to the center.

Shooting the Striker:

Crucial to the game, shooting the striker skillfully affects the outcome. Fouls may result from poor shooting. The striker must hit both base lines when on the board, either fully covering the end circle or not touching it at all, and must not touch the diagonal arrow line.

Double Due in Carrom:

A double deuce occurs when the last piece pocketed is the striker. This forfeits the turn and allows the opponent to retain one of the player's coins.

Playing a Round:

A round concludes when a player pockets all their carrom men. The winner scores points, and the game continues until a player reaches 29 points.

Carrom Fouls:

Violating rules results in fouls, ending the turn and incurring a penalty. The opponent places one pocketed piece within the main circle as a penalty.

Scores at the End of Each Round:

Count the opponent's remaining pieces to determine your score. Extra points are awarded for pocketing and covering the queen.

Scores at the End of the Game:

The game has no fixed rounds. Scores accumulate, and the game ends when a player reaches 29 points or more. The highest scorer wins. Enjoy carrom on the GetMega App.
