Instagram Allows You To Layer Photos & Add Text To Images
Instagram has introduced new tools that let users add text to images and layer images together.
In a blog post published on Tuesday, Instagram announced that it would be including several new creative options to allow users more ways to express themselves with their photos and carousels.
Add Text to Photos
Instagram will presently allow users to add texts to their photos directly from the in-app post editor. This means that users will no longer need to edit their photos in a separate app in order to add text to images.
Three smartphones with Instagram story editor screens are shown side by side. Each screen displays the text "Make it Shine" utilizing different font styles: "Signature" on the left, "Typewriter" in the center, and "Neon" on the right. Backgrounds are blurred.
Instagram says that this feature will offer users the “creative adaptability to make your content stand out and explore unused, more entertaining storytelling with photos and carousels.”
Instagram users can include words to their images by selecting a photo from their gallery and then tapping the unused text button to write a text overlay for it in the text style that they prefer. Instagram is too including new fonts to the app.
Layer Photos On Top of Each Other
In the blog post, Instagram moreover announced that users will be able to layer another photo on top of another picture as a sticker straightforwardly from the post editor.
Instagram users can layer in additional pictures by tapping the gallery button in the top-right corner of the app. They can then tap on the sticker itself to change it from a rectangular image to a square, circle, heart, or star shape.
The new features come a few weeks after Instagram revealed that it would now let users share up to 20 photos and videos in a single grid post.
In 2017, Instagram added the ability for users to post up to 10 photos or videos in one carousel post — something which became informally known as a “photo dump.” This announcement means that Instagram has doubled the number of photos and videos users can share in a carousel post.
As The Verge notes the change brings Instagram closer to TikTok’s carousel include, which enables users to include up to 35 photographs in a single post.
While TikTok at first gained popularity as a short-form video app, photos have quickly gained traction as well.
