  1. Raja Ravi Varma

He is known as the “Father of Modern Art” because he was the first artist from India to achieve worldwide appreciation. He developed this talent at a very young age and was only seven years old when he revealed that he was a gifted artist. His famous creation “Radha in the Moonlight” was auctioned for INR 24 crore.

  1. Amrita Sher-Gil

She was the first woman and only Asian artist to win a gold medal in Paris for her creation “Young Girls” in 1933. She is still the only young artist and the only Asian to receive this honor. But unfortunately, Amrita left the world at the very young age of 28.

Satish resided in pre-partitioned West Punjab and got enrolled in the School of Art in 1939 and Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai in 1944 but due to some illness had to drop out in 1947. But later was given a scholarship to study under Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, two well-known Mexican artists. Satish Gujral went on to become one of India’s most prominent artists after independence.

He was heavily influenced by the 5th murals in Ajanta Caves. He also traveled a lot throughout India focusing on Indian art forms. While India received independence, the prime minister of India commissioned Nandalal Bose to design the trademarks for the government of India's awards, inclusive of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor. He additionally embellished the original manuscript of India's charter. Nandalal Bose received the Padma Vibhushan in 1954.
