  1. It is the highest dam in India, 2nd highest in Asia, and the 8th highest dam in the world.

  2. It is an embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri, Uttarakhand.

  3. It holds a reservoir for irrigation, municipal water supply, and generation of 1000 Megawatts of hydroelectricity with an additional 1000 MW of pumped-storage hydroelectricity.

  4. The design of the dam was completed in 1972. However, its construction got delayed because of budget issues and was completed in 2006.

  5. It is 260.5 metres tall and 575 metres long with a crest width of 20 metres and a base width of 1128 metres.
