Mai Plot & Ending Explained
Mai is a new Netflix drama series created by Atul Mongia and produced by Clean Slate Films for global distribution on Netflix. The 12-part series follows Supriya, a mute woman, who is killed when she is hit by a truck in the middle of the road, just as she is about to tell her mother, Sheel, about her recent problems.
During the court hearing, Sheel wonders if Supriya's death was an accident, given the truck driver's strange behaviour and a stranger wanting to talk to her about her daughter. She discovers that the truck driver's son has been admitted to an elite school by a trustee, Jawahar, the son of Kusum, an elderly woman nursed by Sheel in the Geeta Bhawan old age nursing home. When Sheel meets Jawahar in order to find out why her daughter was murdered, she ends up kidnapping and dosing him in order to keep him subdued, tying him up in Geeta Bhawan.
To her surprise, the chemicals have a negative effect on him because he is a heart patient, and he dies. However, before he dies, he warns Sheel that she has no idea what she has gotten herself into. Jawahar's subordinates, Prashant and Shankar, view the CCTV footage but decide not to expose Sheel to Jawahar's right-hand woman, Neelam. They have their own ulterior motives, as Jawahar smuggles money through human couriers for industrialist Goyal, and they want to replace Jawahar as his trusted accomplice. They shoot Jawahar's body and bring it to Neelam to make it appear as if it was done by the Special Police Force (SPF). However, none of them can locate the crypto key required to access Goyal's funds. Prashant and Shankar want to personally deliver the key to Goyal in order to prevent Neelam from replacing Jawahar.
Sheel, Prashant, and Neelam discover the key in the medical waste plant, where she had thrown it the night she murdered Jawahar. However, they are discovered by Keshav, Neelam's right-hand man and lover. Sheel injures Keshav during a fight, and the three kidnap him. Meanwhile, Sheel and Yash’s marriage is deteriorating following Supriya's death. Furthermore, it is revealed that Archit, who was previously thought to be the son of Yash's brother and his wife, is actually Sheel and Yash's son.
Sheel also learns that Farooque (Ankur Ratan), the SPF inspector in charge of Supriya's case, was also her boyfriend, and the two broke up because he was already married.
