The release of Jersey was initially scheduled for 2020, however the coronavirus epidemic caused delays in scheduling. The movie debuted in theatres on April 22 and was made available on a larger international scale for home-watching on Netflix on May 20.

Is Arjun Talwar a real character?

Jersey is a reimagining of the same-titled sports drama film from 2019, which starred Nani as Arjun and was written and directed by Tinnanuri as well. It had a similar main narrative but was Telugu-language spoken throughout. The first Jersey won the Critics Choice Film Awards, Zed Cine Awards Telugu, South Indian International Movie Awards, and National Film Awards. It was also well-received by critics.

Due to the success of the 2019 adaptation of Jersey, many people mistakenly thought that the film was based on Raman Lamba's life. This raised concerns about the veracity of the story. Lamba, an accomplished and well-liked cricket player from India, passed very suddenly in 1998 after suffering internal bleeding three days after being struck in the head by a cricket ball during a match. But Tinnanuri has denied these allegations, claiming that Jersey's 2019 and 2022 iterations are both entirely fictional.
