The first Jersey won the Critics Choice Film Awards, Zed Cine Awards Telugu, South Indian International Movie Awards, and National Film Awards. It was also well-received by critics.
Due to the success of the 2019 adaptation of Jersey, many people mistakenly thought that the film was based on Raman Lamba's life. This raised concerns about the veracity of the story. Lamba, an accomplished and well-liked cricket player from India, passed very suddenly in 1998 after suffering internal bleeding three days after being struck in the head by a cricket ball during a match.
