Mongia Steel’s Gunwant Singh Mongia’s Success Story
Gunwant Singh Mongia, 57 years old man, is a perfect example of ‘Work hard until you achieve what you dreamt.’ It wasn’t easy for him to grow from a seed to a famous iron and steel industry. His journey began by selling iron nails from village to village on a scooter.
‘Steel Ka Badshah ‘or Gunwant Singh belonged from a humble family. The bread earner of the family, his father operated a small iron factory in Giridh (Jharkhand) which was enough for the family. But Gunwant had some other dreams. He dreamt of establishing a bigger firm. He soon banked up enough money to open a furniture shop. However, later both the brothers joined their family business and continued to tackle their industry.
From 1883, they started setting rolling mills one by another in the following years that gradually became stable with time.
In 2001, Gunwant’s brother decided to divide the company and moved to Assam. That was when Gunwant Singh thought of expanding and exploring more business apart from family business. He started a strip mill to manufacture pipe and profile. Sadly, this wasn’t a wise decision in the competitive world and the industry drowned.
In 2003, Gunwant Singh got back into the iron and steel industry and explored a new technology TMT (Thermo Mechanically Treated) bars. The market was astounded with the new invention of bars and this was the reason why business took off the clouds in 2013.
Gunwant Singh, himself is the brand ambassador of his company. In spite of so much he managed to grow himself and grab a unique identification. His will and courage is extremely appreciable.
At present, Mongia Steel produces over 350 tonnes of TMT bars with 300 employees. They spread over a huge market of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
