Manohar Arjun Surve, better known as Manya Surve, etched his name into the annals of Mumbai's underworld history with a combination of intellect, audacity, and unfortunate circumstances. Surve's early years were marked by academic success, graduating with a BA from Kirti College in Mumbai. However, his life took a drastic turn when he was falsely implicated in a murder case and sentenced to life in Yerwada Jail. Despite being innocent, Surve found himself behind bars, where he began to plot his escape and eventual return to the streets of Mumbai.

After nine years of incarceration, Surve executed a daring escape, slipping away from custody and reemerging in Mumbai's underworld. He wasted no time in establishing his gang, recruiting trusted lieutenants like Sheikh Munir and Vishnu Patil. Together, they embarked on a spree of daring robberies and criminal activities, quickly gaining notoriety and challenging the established order of the Mumbai underworld.

Surve's strategic acumen and fearless approach soon brought him into direct conflict with the likes of Dawood Ibrahim, as his gang rose in prominence and posed a significant threat to established crime syndicates. His audacious exploits and ability to evade capture earned him a reputation as one of the most formidable figures in Mumbai's criminal underworld.

However, Surve's reign of terror was short-lived. In 1982, during a routine encounter with the police near Ambedkar College junction in Wadala, Surve was fatally wounded in a dramatic shootout. His death marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in Mumbai's criminal landscape.

Despite his demise, Surve's legacy lives on, immortalized in popular culture through books, articles, and films. The Bollywood movie "Shootout at Wadala," starring John Abraham, brought Surve's story to the silver screen, captivating audiences with its portrayal of his rise and fall.

Manya Surve's life serves as a cautionary tale of the perils of the criminal underworld and the consequences of choices made in desperation. His journey from a promising student to a notorious gangster is a testament to the complexities of human nature and the power of circumstance.

In death, as in life, Manya Surve remains an enigmatic figure, his story serving as a reminder of the indelible mark left by those who dare to challenge the status quo.
