Madurai Muthu (born 19th September 1979) is a notable Indian actor and stand-up comedian who has made a huge contribution to the Tamil television industry. He was born in Tirumangalam, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and attended a bachelor’s degree in commerce (B.Com) and a master’s degree in commerce (M.Com) before transitioning into the entertainment industry. He is known for being the ‘first’ in Tamil Nadu television to introduce stand-up comedy, and it has gained prominence in Tamil Nadu as a style of entertainment because of him.
Muthu’s life has had both ups and downs. He was married to a woman named Vaiammal, who bore him two daughters before tragically passing away in a motor vehicle accident on 5 February 2016 while travelling back from the Pilliyarpatti Temple. Six months later, to offer stability for his children, Muthu remarried to his friend Neethi, a dentist, bringing into the world another child and fathering three children in total.
Muthu’s artistic career saw him perform in more than 1,200 stage shows in more than 80 countries, and with his popularity, he is well recognised among Tamil audiences globally. From the television side of things, Muthu was also on popular series such as Kalakka Povathu Yaaru and Cooku with Comali Season 2, and this solidified him even further as a well-known name. Muthu’s work extends to acting in more than 20 films, such as Akilan, Madurai Veeran, and Sabhaapathy as well.
Muthu overall is about five feet seven inches, about fifty-nine kilograms, towards the lean side of the right weight, whereby overall he looks great as an actor. Muthu comes from a humble existence, with his father Ramasamy and mother Muthuirulaye being pivotal figures in his life. Muthu lost his mother soon after he was destined for fame, but through thick and thin, resilience and a Never Give Up attitude allowed Muthu to become loved by his fans.
To this date, Maduraidu Muthu is not only a well-loved comedian and actor, but he is also a well-respected man who overcomes emotionally draining situations. Muthu is a role model to many up-and-coming comedians and actors in Tamil Nadu and around the world by his success, travelling from Madurai town into international arenas.
