What We know about UK PM Rishi Sunak's parents - Yashvir & Usha

Rishi Sunak became the first politician of Indian origin to be elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. With more than 140 supporters, the 42-year-old was the favourite to win the Conservative Party leadership race, but it was decided even before the election when Penny Mordaunt stepped down.

Usha and Yashvir Sunak are his parents. Rishi Sunak has two children with his wife Akshata Murthy.

Rishi Sunak is the wealthiest politician in Westminster, having graduated from Winchester College, Lincoln College, Stanford University, and Oxford University.

Rishi's grandfathers were both born in Punjab before moving to East Africa. Yashvir Sunak and Usha Sunak, his parents, were born in Kenya and Tanganyika, respectively. He revealed in a 2015 interview with Business Standard that his maternal grandfather received an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) "after decades and decades" of working for Inland Revenue, the tax office. His grandparents moved to the United Kingdom from East Africa with their children in the 1960s.

Sunak's father, Yashvir Sunak, worked as a general practitioner for the National Health Service, and his mother, Usha Sunak, owned a chemist shop. Both were of Indian origin but spent the majority of their lives in the United Kingdom. Sunak was born at Southampton General Hospital in 1980 as well.
