Fawad Khan has a cult following not only for his dashing looks but also for his exceptional acting abilities. His popularity in India grew significantly after the release of his first Bollywood film, Khoobsurat (2014). His performance in Kapoor & Sons (2016) boosted his popularity even further. His Pakistani film, The Legend Of Maula Jatt, was recently released and has done extremely well not only in Pakistan but also internationally. The grand period entertainer was released on October 13, 2022, and its worldwide box office has surpassed Rs. 200 crore. It is the first Pakistani film to accomplish this feat.
The Legend Of Maula Jatt has piqued the interest of Indian moviegoers, but it has yet to be released in India. However, the fans may now have reason to rejoice. According to a source, “The Legend Of Maula Jatt” will be released in Indian theatres on December 23. Zee Studios has backed the film and is working hard to make it a reality. In the coming week, we’ll know whether the film will be released in theatres and whether it will be on December 23 or another date.”
Surprisingly, if The Legend Of Maula Jatt is released on December 23, it will compete with Cirkus. The Rohit Shetty-directed Ranveer Singh film also hits theatres on the same day. According to one industry insider, "the battle for screens has already begun between Cirkus and Avatar: The Way Of Water, which opens on December 16." It'll be interesting to see how things play out now that The Legend Of Maula Jatt may also join the fray."
That is not all. It was recently reported that three Bengali films - Haami 2, Projapoti, and Hatyapuri - will all be released on December 23. All of these films are generating a lot of buzz. Meanwhile, Rajneeti Part - 1 will be released in Assam, starring actor-singer Zubeen Garg, and will compete with the other releases.
The Legend Of Maula Jatt is a remake of the cult Pakistani classic film Maula Jatt, which was released in 1979. It tells the story of a local folk hero named Maula Jatt and how he defeats his adversary, Noori Natt, the leader of a brutal clan. It also stars Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik, and Mahira Khan in addition to Fawad Khan.
The Legend Of Maula Jatt's release in India is significant because there has been an unofficial ban on Pakistani films and actors since the Uri attack (2016). Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), in which Fawad played a supporting role, had a difficult time finding a peaceful release.
